Miley Cyrus is the new face of Marc Jacobs. The controversial singer fronts the label’s spring/summer 2014 campaign, set on a dark beach in Los Angeles and photographed by David Sims. Cyrus is a friend of both Jacobs and his business partner Robert Duffy. She appeared nude in Jacobs’s Protect The Skin You’re In T-shirt campaign, which raises funds and awareness for skin cancer research, and presented the duo with the Fashion Group International’s Superstar Award in October last year.
Agent Provocateur’s profit before taxes has doubled in the past financial year. Revenue soared from £1,665,000 to £3,800,000, with total sales increasing by 24.5 per cent. The brand’s very successful collaboration with sisters Penélope and Mónica Cruz was also thought to have boosted turnover. The siblings unveiled their debut collection for the label in July last year.
In celebration of Super Bowl XLVIII and in support of the National Football League Foundation (NFL Foundation), the CFDA and Bloomingdale’s have teamed up on a unique collaboration of customised football helmets, created by a slew of CFDA members. All 48 helmets will be auctioned with 100% of the net proceeds benefiting the NFL Foundation, a non-profit organisation dedicated to improving the lives of those touched by the game of football.
Hussein Chalayan has been hired as Vionnet’s demi-couture designer. His debut collection for the brand will be unveiled on January 21 during Couture Fashion Week in Paris. Vionnet is a recently re-launched label originally founded by the revolutionary fashion designer Madame Madeleine Vionnet in 1912.
Vivienne Westwood has designed and curated costumes for the Vienna State Ballet, to be worn when the dancers perform during the intermission of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra’s New Year’s concert on Wednesday. Austria native Andreas Kronthaler, creative director of Vivienne Westwood — and the designer’s husband — commented, “I feel honored that we were asked to design the costumes for the New Year’s Concert ballet, as it holds such tradition for me.”
Rihanna is the new face of Balmain. Described as an “icon” by the label’s creative director, Olivier Rousteing, the singer stars in the forthcoming spring/summer 2014 campaign. Rihanna has previously fronted campaigns for Armani Jeans.
David Koma is Mugler’s new artistic director. The London-based designer – who starts his new role in January – will unveil his first collection for the brand in June with pre-collection, before making his catwalk debut in September during Paris Fashion Week. Koma replaces Nicola Formichetti, who left the French fashion house in April to join Diesel as artistic director. The designer’s arrival marks the first stage of rebranding for Mugler, with a renewed focus on women’s ready-to-wear.
John Galliano is confirmed to be creating the stage costumes for Stephen Fry’s new stage adaptation of Oscar Wilde’s famous comedy, The Importance Of Being Earnest. The former Christian Dior designer is also still in talks to assume a more permanent role at Oscar de la Renta, he told WWD, with De la Renta stating that the two still email one another weekly.
